The first couloir we skied is the dotted line on the left, it is mostly hidden behind the rocks in this picture. The dashed line on the right is the second one we skied. |
There is a short boot pack up to the top of the first couloir, it is pretty south facing and had lost a lot of snow. |
However once you get into the couloir its orientation has protected it well from the sun and there is good snow in there. |
It doesn't look too steep in this picture but when Rog and I tried to ski this two years ago and hit ice here we had to down climb with axes for a short way. |
Out of the narrow section, behind where Wolfie is standing to take this picture is a big lump of rock, you can head round either side of it. |
We had come down from the red arrow on the left of the picture. Standing here taking these pics I could see that there was a line through from the one on the right as well. |
Wolfie cruises past. |
A nice shot back up the second couloir. Once we got to Trient we had no planned way of getting back. We hung about for a bit and managed to hitch a ride back with a minibus of skiers |
We talked about heading back tomorrow to do the second couloir but in the end decided to head back up straight away. There was another shortish climb up to the peak. |
The peaks in the background are Pointe Orny on the left, which has some cool couloirs down its NE face and Aiguille du Tour with the straightlined couloir du table on it. |
We were glad we came back up as looking down there were no other tracks in here. When we were hitching back the second time Swiss Tony came past having done our first couloir yesterday and had hoped to be first down this line today, gutted that we had got there before him. |

The snow in here was really good, fluffy and light with nice slough running round your boots all the way down. Glad we made the decision to have a second run, it was a close thing. |
