Decided to have a go at the Grands Envers today, just the first couple of pitches and then hike back to the midi. Looking back at the midi after the first few turns |
Ant hikes up to the top of the first pitch |
How good was that, super silky smooth snow, no tracks, no competition to get there first, just a casual stroll to the top of the pitch and then... You might need to click on the picture and look at the bigger one to see Ant and the tracks. |
Ant drops into the second pitch |
How nice is that snow? |
This pitch looks wicked steep when you look across it. |
The slot could do with a bit more filling in to make it really user friendly. If you drop any of the fluted section you will get a harsh flat landing. |
The skin back up starts in earnest. There were quite a few slots around so we decided on roping up. |
Cool ice formations. |
Had to do a spot of ice climbing up the top side of a crevasse here. Where you can see the tracks just behind Ant they did just break through into a slot. |
Ant takes over the cause for a while. The snow was getting a bit soft and hard work here. |
Just put this in to show the route taken coming back up. It could be skied OK in the opposite direction. |
Just over these last few slots and we could get the skis back on and skin back up to the lift. There was a section just after here where we skied through the bottom of a large crevasse that was well cool, but had run out of memory to take more pics |
